The Center for Educating Critically at Boston University
I was approached by The Center for Educating Critically at Boston University to provide a full website redesign, logo design, and rebrand.
This required a few steps: first, we collaborated on a vision board to ensure we were on the same page about messaging and direction, as well as exactly what they wanted provided versus what may be a moot point to include.
Up first, I created the brand & style guide. Selected slides are on the left-hand side of this page. This was the highlight of our work together. I included brand colors, typography, a brand new logo, examples of logo usage, as well as integration into the greater Boston University branding. A huge emphasis for this client was accessibility - as a department centered on equity work in schools, we wanted the website to be equitable as well. For the logo, we went through several proposed sketches, and ended up refining this design into a standard vector format.
This of course, does bring us to the website, which was the next part of our work together. Integrating the logo seamlessly with a relaunch of what was previously a clunky interface took time and attention, but was extremely worth it in the end. The client had the lead on direction for most of the general appearance, with my assistance in executing their desires and advising where necessary. I also provided a 5-page instructional document and video tutorial on various aspects of the website’s backend so that the client would be able to continue to add to the site as needed independent of my scope of work.
Lastly, we worked on a series of teacher guides centered on banned books. These guides were meant to follow the new brand and stylings, but be replicated in Canva. My job was to create a template and series of instructional videos on how to fill it out using the company’s copy - then, grad assistants at the Center for Educating Critically fully filled them out on their own. Those are shown below.
While this project strayed from what was displayed on my portfolio, I felt an immense amount of trust from the Center for Educating Critically in the scope and meaningfulness of the work we completed together, and am very happy with the end result
